How Does Reverse Osmosis Water Filter Systems Work?
Pressurizing the Tap Water
The process begins with applying pressure to your tap water. This is essential to push the water through the entire filtration system.
Pre-Filtration
The pressurized water first moves through pre-filters. These filters remove larger particles like dirt, sediment, and chlorine. This step is important to protect the delicate RO membrane.
The RO Membrane
Next, water encounters the RO membrane. This semi-permeable membrane is the system's core component. It's designed to allow only water molecules to pass through, blocking contaminants as small as 0.0005 microns.
Removing Contaminants
As the water passes through the RO membrane under pressure, it leaves behind contaminants like heavy metals, bacteria, fluoride and dissolved chemicals. The pure water moves on to the next stage.
Post-Filtration and Polishing
Once through the membrane, the water often goes through a final post-filter. This stage polishes the water, improving its taste and clarity.
Storing the Purified Water
The purified water is then stored in a clean, NSF-certified tank. ready for your use. This ensures a constant supply of purified water at your convenience.
Waste Water Disposal
The filtration process produces wastewater containing the filtered out contaminants. This water is safely disposed of, and with modern efficient systems, the amount of wastewater is minimized.
